The Broken Media settings allow you to control what Scanfully scans, how deep it scans, and which pages or resources it should ignore. These options help you balance coverage, relevance, and scan efficiency.
This scan always runs from the outside. The settings do not change how Scanfully detects broken media. They define the scope of what is checked.
Resource Types to Scan
This section lets you choose which types of media Scanfully should check for availability issues.
You can enable or disable checks for images, scripts, stylesheets, videos, audio, iframes, embeds, and object-based resources. Each option maps to a specific way media is referenced in HTML.
Disabling a resource type means Scanfully will ignore that category entirely. This can be useful if a certain media type is known to fail intentionally or is not relevant to your site.
If you are unsure, leave all resource types enabled. This provides the most complete view of your site’s content health.
Max Depth
Max Depth controls how many levels deep Scanfully follows links starting from your homepage.
A depth of one checks the homepage only. A depth of two includes pages linked from the homepage. Higher values expand the crawl outward through your internal link structure.
Increasing depth increases coverage, but also increases scan time. For most sites, a depth of three provides a good balance between reach and efficiency.
This setting affects which pages are scanned, not how media is evaluated on those pages.
Sitemap URL
The Sitemap URL tells Scanfully which pages to include in the scan, even if they are not easily reachable through navigation.
If provided, Scanfully uses the sitemap as a source of truth for page discovery. This ensures that important pages, such as landing pages or orphaned content, are still checked for broken media.
The sitemap must be on the same domain as the site you are monitoring. External sitemaps are ignored.
For WordPress sites, this is typically the default wp-sitemap.xml.
Extra Pages
Extra Pages allow you to manually add URLs that should always be scanned.
This is useful for pages that are:
• Not linked internally
• Only accessible through campaigns
• Temporarily hidden from navigation
Enter one full URL per line. These pages are added to the scan scope in addition to pages discovered through crawling or the sitemap.
Ignore Pages or Domains
This field lets you exclude specific pages or entire domains from Broken Media checks.
You can ignore:
• Individual pages that are intentionally broken
• Third-party domains that frequently block scanners
• External providers you do not want reported
Enter one URL or domain per line. Any media found on these pages or hosted on these domains will be skipped during the scan.
This does not affect Broken Links scans. It applies only to Broken Media.
Saving Changes
Changes to Broken Media settings apply to the next scan. After saving, you can request a new scan to immediately recheck your site using the updated configuration. Existing results remain visible until a new scan completes.
